About Demolition Crew NYC

A Staten Island demolition contractor that files the paperwork, runs its own crews, and leaves the site ready for whatever comes next.

Local, licensed, and accountable for the whole job

Demolition Crew NYC works out of a yard on Charles Avenue in Elm Park, on the North Shore of Staten Island. That location is not incidental to how we operate. Being fifteen or twenty minutes from most of the borough means we can walk a property the day you call, get a machine back on site the same afternoon when a scope changes, and price jobs without padding for a two-hour drive from somewhere else.

We are a demolition contractor rather than a general contractor who owns an excavator. The distinction matters when something unexpected shows up — a foundation that runs deeper than the drawings said, a party wall in worse shape than the survey suggested, an oil tank nobody knew about. Those are normal Tuesdays for us, and we have the equipment, the licensing and the relationships to deal with them without your project stopping for a fortnight.

What we actually do

Fourteen services across four categories: structural demolition, interior demolition, concrete and asphalt removal, and targeted removals like pools, chimneys and decks. In practice most jobs are a combination — a house teardown that also involves a driveway and a garage, or a commercial fit-out that starts with an interior strip and ends with a slab cut. Handling all of it under one contract is cheaper for you and simpler for everyone.

How we work with the DOB

New York City does not let property owners file their own demolition permits. A registered design professional has to take responsibility for the scope, and a whole sequence of approvals has to close out before a permit issues: the asbestos survey, the DEP filing, the Con Edison disconnect confirmations, the pedestrian protection plan, the adjacent-property notifications, and Landmarks approval if the building is designated or sits in a historic district.

Managing that sequence is a large part of what you are actually buying. We have run it enough times to know which order things need to happen in, which submissions get bounced back for what reason, and how to keep a project from sitting idle waiting on a form. Contractors who treat permits as an afterthought are the reason stop-work orders exist.

Safety and the neighbours

On a borough where houses are frequently attached or four feet apart, most of the risk on a demolition site is to somebody who does not work for us. Every job gets a protection plan before it gets a machine: fencing and pedestrian protection, dust control appropriate to what is coming down, monitoring on the adjacent structures, and notifications to the people either side so nobody is surprised by an excavator on a Monday morning.

We are fully insured, we work to OSHA standards, and we carry the certificates you or your lender will ask for. If your project needs additional insured status or a specific coverage limit, ask at the estimate stage and we will confirm what we can provide.

Where the debris goes

Construction and demolition debris is one of the largest waste streams in the city, and how a contractor handles it says a lot. We sort on site rather than mixing everything into one container: concrete and masonry to a recycler, ferrous and non-ferrous metals separated and sold, clean dimensional lumber diverted where the grade allows. It reduces container counts, it lowers your disposal cost, and it keeps a defensible paper trail on where material from your property ended up.

Send photos of the structure and we can usually price it without a site visit. Same-day callback on every request.

Up to 6 photos, 12MB each. A shot of the front, the side and the access route is usually enough for a firm number.

Why property owners here call us first

Demolition goes wrong in predictable ways: a permit that was never filed, an asbestos report nobody ordered, a hole left open through a rainstorm. Most of what we do is making sure none of that lands on you.

Licensed, insured, and filed correctly

Every job that needs a permit gets one. We file the DM or ALT application through DOB NOW, coordinate the asbestos investigator, and confirm the Con Edison disconnects before a machine touches the building.

One crew, start to finish

The people who quote the job are the people who run it. No brokering the work out to a sub you have never met, and no surprise second contractor turning up for the debris.

The site is left buildable

Demolition is not finished when the walls come down. Foundations out, hole backfilled and compacted in lifts, site graded flat and swept — ready for the next trade instead of ready for another cleanup bill.

Written scope, fixed price

You get a line-itemed estimate that says what is included, what is excluded, and what would change the number. Most of our disputes-avoided come down to that one page.

Walk the property with us

On-site estimates are free and there is no obligation attached to them. Worst case you get an accurate number and a clear picture of the permit timeline.

Where we work on Staten Island

Our yard is on Charles Avenue in Elm Park, so most of the borough is a twenty-minute run with a machine on the trailer. That matters more than it sounds: shorter hauls mean fewer mobilisation charges on your estimate, and a crew that can be back on site the same afternoon if the scope changes.

We work the full island — the older attached and semi-attached housing stock on the North Shore, the mid-century detached homes through New Dorp and Great Kills, and the larger lots down in Tottenville and Charleston where pool removals and barn teardowns are common.

We also take demolition and removal work in Brooklyn, and across the Outerbridge and Goethals in Perth Amboy, Elizabeth, Linden and Newark. Ask when you call.
